Senate Approves Bill to Make Public Epstein Documents

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday gave swift approval to a measure that will force the release of official records concerning the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a almost unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The administration relented after months of trying to delay the joint action involving a scandal that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, expediting the process. Hours earlier, the House voted decisively for the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

Citizens have been patient long enough. The survivors have suffered long enough,” Chuck Schumer stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before urging the chamber to approve it without opposition. “Uncover the facts. Allow openness to prevail.”

Next Steps

This legislation next heads to Trump for his approval. Trump stated on Monday that he would endorse the legislation.

Even though Trump has for months rejected the controversy over the official management of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the House bill over the weekend, and stated he would give his assent if it is presented to him.

Reaction

Democrats, along with those affected and their representatives who were seated in a House gallery, cheered after the bill was approved. The only opposition came from a GOP representative, who expressed concern he worried the measure would disclose personal information of people, persons of interest and others caught up in the investigation.
