Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
